A recollection of Humbleness

The wind swirls around the skies in a sudden movement only to drift the clouds from down the valley towards the sunset. The forest violet bell blossoms at the edge of the woods only to grace the path with his fragrant beauty. And the rainbow rises onto the night-falling pink skies only to the awe and wonder of our souls… Everything in its right place. People unveil their presence just as the wind, they pop up into our lives just like flowers, blossom and spread their seeds so we can grow together. And when they’re gone, the shivers of sadness ...

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. - Mahatma Gandhi

Hymn of the Big Wheel

Sunny days, extremely sunny days at Aurora. Perfect blue sky, vivid red and yellow and copper trees, a pure pleasure to walk and work and simply lay down in the sun, caressed by the colours and the warm light of the autumn. Then rainy, extremely rainy days have arrived. Dark heavy skies and leaves falling hastily and night clouds running so fast as if it the stars were supposed to be dancing to our amazement. All muddy all of a sudden, so muddy that the brave La Frontera remained hopelessly stuck in a slope from where we had to wave her goodbye and go down the hill by ...

Of mice and men

I’ve never red this book, but I have a feeling my interest towards it is growing with each day spent in Aurora. One can literally say that now we are a community of humans and mice, experiencing a lil’ bit of hard time on achieving harmony together. It is not that we don’t like each other – we have already overcame that critical moment of glancing into each other’s eyes – it’s just that we’re systematically failing on holding the space together. If we could at least hold on to the same schedule! What it usually happens is that during morning meditation or ...

The Silence of the Autumn

Silence, stillness, a feeling of awaiting for something; nature is ready to welcome the winter season. Before returning to Aurora, I heard from Claudian the first “brumă” happened. That means that during the nights the temperature dropped under minus 0 degrees – ensuing, from now on, lots of thoughtfulness on behalf of the harvesters. So today I checked the three walnuts at the margins of the property and realized that there are still plenty of nuts to pick up. Except now it’s all hidden under the thick layer of dried leaves as most of the trees and plants ...

Abundant harvests and Hatha Yoga

In September, it was great to experience the abundance of Mother Nature! So many seeds, so many mushrooms to pick up, apples, pears, plums, potatoes, cabbages, and walnuts! Paul showed up and gave a hand storing mushrooms, picking fruits and making jam. Ioanna cooked and made different types of jam, Filipa got sick by eating to much plums, Carson climbed walnut trees, we all were left with black hands picking walnuts and Claudian broke his back harvesting potatoes! September has passed and was marked not only by abundant harvests but also by a Gift Economy success...

Aurora Terra Livre

In August, Claudian returned to Aurora and Filipa had to return to Portugal. They thought that after so much work, they deserved a good rest for a while. Well... it didn't happen! In early August, TERRA LIVRE Movement (freeland movement) was launched. A movement to create more awareness on the sacredness of the Land and a future fundraising platform to support people and projects that need to buy Land, ensuring that the Land will be respected as a living system with equal rights as all other life forms on this beautiful planet. In almost two months TERRA LIVRE ...
